Do we actually have "giants today"? Hardly a week
goes by without the media announcing some new marriage between major
companies, the creation of some new colossus, a mega-merger designed
to create the super-giants of the future.
Speaking of God, a discovery by William Keel and
his associates in 1992 is absolutely awesome. Our solar system with
planet Earth is situated between, not inside, the two spiral arms of
our galaxy. Moreover, super-giant stars reside inside the spiral
arms that would expose Earth to radiation intense enough to prevent
life.
Crises and trends come and go—peak and mellow out. But the
current global food and energy crisis seems to be a sober exception.
Not only weather—but man’s greed driven decisions seem to be
triggering problems worldwide.
The presidential election of 2008 will
likely raise some challenging heavy questions in the minds of voters. One of
those areas of concern will be religious affiliation—and another will be the
impact of real or perceived differences between Conservative and Liberal
“values.”
What a 60 years! To start with—the rebirth of the State of Israel
in 1948 was a miracle of history (Ezek.37:1-14; Luke 21:29,30).
Never before has a nation been destroyed, its people dispersed to
the ends of the earth, and then nearly two thousand years later,
regathered to their homeland and reestablished as a nation.
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and
heat, And summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:22 NAS
As the year 2008 began we were exposed to scenes of tribal
conflict — this time in postcard perfect Kenya. These scenes vividly
reminded us of Darfur, the "anarchy" of Rwanda and other the
genocides and religiously motivated wars that bathed the last
century with the blood of millions of innocents. Will Kenya’s Luo
tribesmen go the way of the Tutsis of Rwanda? What will eventually
come of UN intervention? Will it be an effete useless effort? How
far and wide will such "fires" spread?
President Bush is focusing intense efforts, in the waning days of
his administration, toward the elusive goal of Middle East peace.
The 2007 meeting in Annapolis between Israeli Jews and Palestinian
Arabs laid the ground rules for ensuing peace talks.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, expects to conquer
and rule the world with a secret weapon. No, it’s not a nuclear
device, but a Messiah emerging out of a well.
This September's UN session saw the modern day Haman* of Persia
who would destroy the Children of Israel and Israel itself. Please
see our March 2006 newsletter for some perspective on the subject.
*Haman is the villan of the book of Esther who devilishly
devised a plot to allow all the Jews in the Persian Empire to be
destroyed in revenge against Mordachai who refused to bow down
to him.
Hope for hearts that hurt based on the sure Word of God’s promises
is our most valuable comfort at this time. Like all parents, like
all brothers and sisters touched by tragedy, our hearts search for
comfort that has substance.
Bible Students have
played an historic role as friends of Zion. Today there are many
Christian Zionists—but there is a difference!
Spring, simply put, is a miracle! It
reminds us of the promise of life after death. By it God preaches
from His book of nature the glorious doctrine of the resurrection.
Richard Dawkins’ latest book THE GOD DELUSION has been in the top
ten on the New York Times bestsellers’ list for over 22
weeks. Dawkins, a long-standing professor at Oxford University, is
considered the dean of Biological Evolution. Actually, Dawkins’ book
is one of six recent books promoting atheism. Is atheism cresting
the wave of popularity? No! The reverse is true.
